SGA Players Enjoy Chess Competition SGA学子乐在“棋”中
2021年1月16日，深圳外国语学校（集团）湾区学校成功举办首届国际象棋大赛，来自各个年级的41位小棋手参加了此次比赛。深圳外国语学校（集团）湾区学校执行校长刘佳、学术校长Mr. McCallum、小学副校长Mr. Reyes，中国国际象棋协会竞赛部副主任梁志华女士、深圳市杜杉国际象棋俱乐部总教练杜杉先生、深圳市杜杉国际象棋俱乐部教务主任杨玲女士共同出席。自2019年9月引进国际象棋社团课程以来，我校小棋手参加过多次省、市级国际象棋专业性比赛，并已有10人左右获得中国国际象棋协会的等级认证。
On January 16, 2021, Shenzhen Foreign Languages GBA Academy successfully held its first chess competition, with 41 young participants from different grades. SGA School Director Ms. Liu Jia, Head of School Mr. McCallum, Deputy Head of Primary Mr. Reyes, Shenzhen Dushan Chess Club Chief Coach Mr. Du Shan, Shenzhen Dushan Chess Club Dean Yang Ling attended the event. Since the introduction of the chess club course in September 2019, our school’s young chess players have participated in more than five provincial and municipal-level professional chess competitions, and about 10 have been certified by the China Chess Association.
列宁曾把国际象棋形象地比喻为智慧的体操。刘佳校长在致辞中提到：“国际象棋是世界上除足球之外普及率最高的体育项目，每周全球有超过3000万的孩子参加由学校组织的国际象棋课程，前苏联科学院远东研究所研究员在1984年1月的《苏联棋艺》上发表文章称，国际象棋起源于中国。因为棋盘的64格对应《易经》的八八六十四卦，黑白对应阴阳。”
Lenin once compared chess to intelligent gymnastics. In her speech, Ms. Liu said, “Chess is the most popular sport in the world except football. Every week, more than 30 million children participate in chess courses organized by schools. Researcher of the Far East Institute of the Soviet Academy of Sciences said in an article published in “Soviet Chess Art” in January that chess originated in China. Because the 64 squares of the chessboard correspond to the 64 hexagrams of the Book of Changes, and black and white correspond to yin and yang.

The young players met friends through chess, achieved good results and displayed their manner, enjoying the joy and wisdom of the competition. 在今天的比赛中，小棋手们专注投入，为我们呈现了一场精彩的脑力大比拼。胜利时不骄不躁，困难中不轻言放弃，独立应对，镇定自若。本次国际象棋大赛为所有国际象棋爱好者提供了相互交流、共同切磋的平台。首届国际象棋大赛圆满结束，谢谢到场支持的各位领导嘉宾、老师、裁判员和物业人员。让我们一起期待在下一次比赛中相聚!
In the competition that just ended, the young players dedicated themselves and presented us with a wonderful brain power game. Don’t be arrogant or impetuous when winning, don’t give up lightly in difficulties, deal with it independently, and be calm. This chess competition provided a platform for all chess enthusiasts to communicate and learn together. We would like to thank the teachers and all referees for ensuring the smooth progress of the games, and thank the property security for their tireless support.
