From May 20 to May 21, 12 students in the fifth grade showed their parents, teachers and students of many international schools the results of their projects over the past six weeks. This was the first PYP graduation exhibition of SLIS. Under the guidance of their instructors, the students had overcome various difficulties in online courses through interdisciplinary research and the use of surveys, field visits, interviews with experts, and reports. In the final report presentation, a full stop was drawn.

Making videos, setting up Kahoot games, drawing posters, designing electronic slides... The students used high technology to combine their creative thinking and learning gains with a variety of creative methods. Each life on the earth is a gift from nature. Our planet is experiencing unprecedented challenges. The coronavirus is spreading... In this context, some students chose the topic of global warming to discuss the phenomena of renewable energy, air pollution, sea level rise, etc. In the epidemic, they did not stop exploring and used their own actions to call on everyone to protect our only home. The students who adopted pets focused on the theme of stray cats, discussing their impact on the environment and thinking about how we can help stray cats. Based on their interest in physics, some students launched a series of research around quantum science... The children’s areas of concern are rich and diverse, and their research results are beyond everyone's expectations.

The audience who participated in the results exhibition fully affirmed the children's project report. They raised many questions and actively interacted with the children. The children carefully shared what they thought, and wrote down the questions that they  could not answer. The exhibition came to an end, but the spirit of inquiry will continue to accompany the children's learning journey.

Looking back at the past school year, the PYPC has a lot to say to the children.

Congratulations to the whole SLIS community (parents, teachers, staff) and friends (mentors, experts and SFLS colleagues) for a successful first PYP Exhibition!

‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ (African proverb)

Our Grade 5 students have done a remarkable job showcasing their learning journey through the IB PYP programme. Our students have demonstrated student agency, action, approaches to learning skills (ATLs) and the learner profile attributes by taking responsibility of their learning, through the exploration of their chosen local and global issues or opportunities.

The PYPX, as a culmination of their studies in the primary marks a new beginning to their next journey, the Middle Years Programme (MYP).  Let’s continue to support and nurture our students, because together we can achieve further.

—Mr. Elmer

In the first graduation exhibition, we saw that through the process of continuous learning, continuous adjustment and continuous improvement, the students put forward surprising and thought-provoking creative ideas and proposals, and acquired communication skills, expression skills, research skills and self Improvement of management skills. They are willing to work hard to make the community we live in better.

Thanks to the teachers, classmates and parents who worked hard for this exhibition! Congratulations to the 5th grade students of SLIS on the MYP learning journey to a higher level!
